THE THIRD DEGREE
CONFESSIONS
I think it’s time I came clean. You think you know someone online, but do you really know them at all? In truth, you only know as much as they are willing to share with you. I think it’s time I share.
I am one of the worst spellers – ever.
It’s true. The only reason you don’t know about it is because you know me online. That means that spell check has been hiding my dirty little secret from you. Believe me, if you knew me in real life, you would know that I am an awful speller.
My bad spelling defies explanation. I am a reader after all. I also type quite a bit on the computer. Although spell check corrects my errors, I still see them underlined in color and do the right click thing to fix them. You would think all those prompts would help drill the correct spellings into my brain. Um, yeah.
We spent a HUGE amount of time on Latin and Greek roots/suffixes/prefixes in school the last two years. I can STILL tell you the meanings of every one of them. But did it help me with my spelling? Not so much.
I study for spelling tests and I get all the words correct. Every word – every time. But, when it comes to remembering later, forget about it.
Whenever I am forced to write things out by hand, my bad spelling becomes obvious. I used to think it was writing too quickly and being careless. I’ve slowed down. Sometimes I can tell a word is wrong, but I’m not sure of the right spelling. Other times, I don’t even know it’s wrong.
So there you have it. My name is Melina and I am a bad speller. How about you?

My name is Shy and I am an extreme introvert.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I am not very proud of that. I don't think people who knows me online will know that how introvert I really am, but to be honest, the problem has started to bug me - A LOT!
Truly, I want to make many friends, I want people to know that I am not talking much because I don't know where to start rather than thinking I am a snob person.
Geez, I don't like the fact that I'm an introvert and it's even worst that I don't know how to fix it, yikes :-S
So if you've any tips, feel free to share with me ;)
Shy, We are opposites that way because I hardly ever feel shy. My advice for approaching people to talk is to ask them a question or two about themselves. That way they are the ones doing most of the talking at first so you can feel more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI'm Savannah and I'm afraid of the dark. Seriously! I have to turn on every light while walking in the house and even sleep with the tv on! I just hate it. I always think that something is going to grab me. I thought this fear will go away, but it never did. I just learn to not freak out as much. I even carry my cell phone with me everywhere around the house incase the light goes out, I have something with light in my hands. But is my confession. I'm a 25 year old who is afraid of the dark :(
ReplyDeleteSavannah - My little brother is super afraid of the dark too. He won't walk into a room that doesn't have the light on. He won't even reach in to turn it on. He'll just stand there in the doorway and wait until one of us turns the light on. I don't think he'll outgrow it either.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Pam and I suck at math. I still count on my fingers. However I can tell you the sale price of an item in 20 seconds.
ReplyDeleteI'm Kai and my Handwiting Is pretty bad!! I did well with printing but my cursive Is often chicken scratch! It's so bad I'll often write reviews and ideas in notebooks and can't understand them later! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bad speller too. I also misuse words. Thank goodness for spellcheck and beta readers.
ReplyDeletePam, Kai, and Suzanne- Thank you for joining in to confess with me. Melina
ReplyDeleteI am terribly shy. I can talk all day to students, type all night on Twitter, share and share alike, but to talk to a group of adults... I am clam up! I've been trying to break that habit! Thanks for confessing.
ReplyDeleteI am terrible at math and have an irrational fear of getting locked into public bathrooms (as an aside, I have no idea where this fear comes from).
