Forgotten Treasure - BBAW - Middle Grade Books

FORGOTTEN TREASURE
BBAW
MIDDLE GRADE BOOKS
Today’s BBAW post is supposed to be about a book we think should get more attention from book bloggers.  Rather than discuss just one book, I decided to take on middle grade books as a whole.  I told you before that I can be sneaky.

Where oh where are all the middle grade book reviews?  Seriously – where are they?  I may not know where they ARE, but I sure know where they ARE NOT.  They are not on the blogs I follow or come upon and they are not on goodreads.  Well, there are a few here and there, but not very many.

I realize that most of the book bloggers I know are teens and older.  They probably don’t read very many middle grade books anymore.  It’s a shame, really.  They are missing out on some really amazing books.  I mean, where else can you read about talking animals, middle school kids turned detectives, or tweens who have magical powers?

Sure, middle grade books are short on romance.  But honestly, you don’t need romance for a story to be appealing.  Romance shomance – give me well-written characters and a compelling plot.

One of my absolutely favorite blogs is From the Mixed Up Files where they celebrate everything middle grade.  It’s such a great place to stop by and you will be reminded that middle grade really can be fun for all ages.

If you haven’t tried it in awhile, I say give middle grade a chance.  You just may be surprised – in a good way.

  1. Love the name of that blog - From the Mixed Up Files - because that book is one of my favorites growing up! Charlotte's Library and Book Aunt feature a lot of middle grade books on their blogs. :)

  4. I have a elementary school kiddo that LOVES middle grade books. As he reads them, so do I (although I may not read them as much as you do!)

What middle grade books to you recommend for boys? I'm always looking for suggestions!

  7. I became frustrated with trying to find reviews of fantasy and science fiction--they are rather scattered around the blogs, and not very thick on the ground! So I started rounding up all the links from other bloggers I could find every Sunday. If you like mg fantasy and science fiction, do stop by-- I manage to find a fairly decent number of reviews to link to!

  10. Although I review all reading levels on my blog, Middle Grade garners the most reviews. Come on over! I love Middle Grade so much. And I don't have any kids that particular age. It's all for me!

  11. I read a lot of middle grade in high school, in fact that was pretty much all I read so that was long before I started blogging I still enjoy middle grade though and have been planning for a while to reread a few favourites so I can review them on my blog :) YA tends to be my main focus at the moment but I agree with you, you don't need romance when the story is gripping with adventure and the writing fantastic.

  14. I actually have two middle grade books I have waiting to be reviewed. It had never really occurred to me to review MG books but when an author contacted me about it, I figured why not. I remember how much I used to love reading those books and I hope to maybe get back into it with those two.

  15. I think MG books are probably getting more attention, but it's still woefully lacking! I don't read MG books myself, as they're just outside the genres I enjoy, but it would be nice to see more reviews of them to see if I'm missing something!
